The Yummly Smart Thermometer has two temperature sensors. One is located near the bottom of the stainless steel probe (to measure the internal temperature of your cut of meat), the other is located within the black ceramic top and measures the ambient temperature of your cooking appliance.
The ambient temperature gives the Smart Thermometer a better understanding of cooking conditions when calculating cooking times and, for advanced cooks, can be used as an additional temperature reading of the air directly surrounding the meat. The ambient temperature sensor can withstand up to 570 degrees Fahrenheit continuously and 1100 degrees Fahrenheit flare-ups for up to 10 minutes.
